Adobe Photoshop Express (Beta)
In case any photo buffs who pass through here are interested... I came across a new Adobe 'application' called Photoshop Express.

It's a free online application that provides 2 GB of online photo storage and some basic photo editing capabilities.

Obviously the editing is limited... but I played around with it a bit... and with what it offers, I think it does very well.

It's got the basics... sharpening, soft focus, saturation, cropping, rotating, etc... along with a few artsy filter effects.

Anyhoo... just wanted to pass along the info... if you're interested, you can sign up here:

I saw a small article on that this afternoon, but haven't had a chance to play with it yet. I'm afraid it will be too crippled for me to be happy with, similar to the way Express compares to the full versions.

Elements, you mean?

And yes, Express is very, very basic.

But for those who aren't,interested in buying a program, and not interested in learning often complex editing applications, it seems to provide some basic functionality (basic sharpening, red-eye removal, etc).

It's honestly not something I could see ever using... but maybe it'll be useful for some... even just for the free photo hosting.

yes. elements. that's what i meant.

I took a poke at it a bit ago, and i do like the Lightroom-ish interface. Lightroom is a great program.

I've never used Lightroom, but I've heard nothing but good things about it.

I can't afford a decent photo editing program, but a friend told me about Picnik.com and I have been using it ever since. The free version has some excellent features for photo editing. I opted to go for the paid version, which is $24.95 for the year and it has some amazing features that quite frankly are much better than most programs I have used, and much easier to mess around with. I figured the $24.95 per year was definitely worth it. There is no photo storage, however I do have an account at flickr and photobucket, so I don't really need one. Have a look see and compare it to your suggestion. You may like it.

I think I've tried Picnik before... at least the free version... through Flickr.

Yeah, it's similar in setup to this PS Express thing... For basic editing, it worked very well.

Thanks for stopping by and also CONGRATULATIONS, on becoming a new Dad. I'm assuming you do mean children and not a new kitty. I was reading that your cat is sick, any improvement, have you found out for certain what is wrong with him? Could he have eaten some of that food this past year they said was bad for the animals and a lot of cats were dying because of it? I know several people who lost their cats from that. We've only had one cat in our married life, we've always seemed to care more for dogs. But what's nice about a cat, you can leave them alone for several days as long as they have their large water container, self feeding food container and their litter box. Dog, no, they have to have someone let them out every so many hours to go potty. We've never been able to toliet train one to use the toliet and flush. LOL Have a wonderful week-end. As far as remembering when you were small, I to have that problem. Abe claims he can remeber things from when he was around 2, not me. A few things from about third grade on, can't seem to remember much before that. Perhaps I just led a very boring life. LOL

Thanks for your comment on tasteful pixels. I use Picasa to upgrade my photos: cut away the pieces which are not relevant, highlight the colours, make them sharper or softer, in case of sunsets make them darker. I can also easily have them printed, which is nice because if I go to the local photoshop the non-standard sizes can not be printed by machine. So my crocodile ( on Flickr ) lost its tail and head.

So, where do you print them?

(I read from your comment that you don't take them to the photo store?)

Posted by readerwil at 03:08, 4/2/2008 | Link | |
No not any more! . I first choose the photos I want to have printed, then I click on "order".I get then a list of providers from which I choose Pixum for that's the easiest. For the USA there are: Kodak Easy Share, Shutterfly, Ritz Pix, Photoworks and may be more. Pixum is in Germany and very good and cheap, they send the photos to my address and that's good.

Ahh, ok, I see!

I've never used Picasa, didn't realize it had that feature in it.
