Photo of the Week (#2), and an Editing Challenge

Another Sunday has snuck up on us, and while I've got a few minutes I wanted to post my 2nd PotW entry.

Last weekend was the annual May Days parade and festivities, and Lisa and I joined a couple friends to watch the Rutland parade.

It was a pretty good parade this year, as it's also Rutland's 100th birthday, so everything was "bigger and better" ... the parade lasted a good 1 hour and 10 minutes or so.

Now... it's still a "small town-ish" parade, so there was nothing extravagant, but there were quite a few interesting floats and groups of people wandering by.

And, of course, I had my camera.

This image was my favorite of the bunch. I'm not 100% pleased with it.. mainly because of the angle from which I took the photo, I ended up with a couple spectator heads at the bottom of the frame that I'd rather not have there.

But despite that, I like the photo. I like the look of the trio... I like the candid appearance of it ... I especially like the facial expression of the waving boy.

And today is a bit of a twofer day ("two for one" day).

While I was editing the photo, I started playing around with various filters and masking effects, etc... and stumbled across a look that I thought was interesting. So I ran with it, tweaked it, played around some more, and ended up with the following:

Please leave your comments and let me know what you think (good and bad).

And, on the topic of me fiddling around with a photo and stumbling across a heavily-filtered look that I ended up enjoying... I'd like to try putting this idea out there as a challenge to other photo/photo-editing buffs out there.

Take a photo you like... and play around with it in your favorite editing program to come up with a heavily filtered look that you feel adds to the image and leaves you with an entirely different (when compared to the original), but enjoyable, result.

If you try this out, please post a link to the result (the original, and the edit) in a comment here so I can check out your work. :)

Have fun and thanks for passing through!

I love the face of the boy that you mentioned and the second photo is very interesting - very good clarity on the main subjects and nicely contrasted with the background. Yes it's a shame about the heads in the front but apart from that it's perfect.

I love what you've done with the photo, so unique. I like the original photo too.

And you know I had to jump ship... :p

I'm not sure why, but when I look at the filtered photo, I think "Willy Wonka".

Chandramoon, thanks for looking, and for the comments.

One nice thing about the edited image is it minimizes the heads in a big way.

Chica, thanks for commenting, and for sharing the link to your edit. I like it. :)

You do know you are supposed to get a models release if you post these on the web don'tchaknow?
You can get in big trouble especially when posting kids. Just FYI.
