Mothman Took A Faceplant
This morning shaped up like any other morning... felt good, looking forward to the weekend.

Spent a few hours in the office, then had some field work to do, so headed out, stopped at the bakery for lunch. Just about done my lunch and I started to feel light headed... it got worse... and worse... and worse... next thing I knew I was on the floor, all I heard was a buzzing in my ears, and my head hurt. Huh?

Yep... I'd passed out, stone cold. I was out for less than a minute... but wow, what a weird feeling.

I got a ride in the ambulance to the ER, then spent the next 4 hours waiting there... blood tests normal, blood pressure normal, ECG normal ... the only thing reminding me that anything happened is that my head still hurts and I bit my tongue when I went down, so that hurts too.

I'm going to go for an outpatient EEG sometime next week probably to see if my grey matter is throwing the volts around like it's supposed to... but in the mean time... weird.

A similar thing happened to me about 7 or 8 years ago... very much the same, except that time I just barely avoided actually blacking out. This time I went all the way.

Apparently about every 7 or 8 years or so the Great Gazoo punches my reset button or something.

And let me tell you... I've passed out cold a few times in my life... and while it's never a pleasant thing... when you wake up from it, it feels like you've just had the greatest sleep ever. I haven't felt this rested for a long time.

Oh my! Well I hope that whatever tests you have to do come out allright. That's pretty odd about the being rested after passing out bit. Of course, I've never passed out, so I don't know the feeling.

I hope everything is OK!

When I was a kid I passed out a lot! Mostly at church.

I went thru all kinds of tests...they never found out a reason for it. Then I outgrew it. Now if i have that "fainting feeling" it is usually because I am stressed out!

Maybe this is a sign of an anxiety attack? New baby on the way...would make me a little anxious!

I hope you are ok Shawn:) I passed out last year on Mother's Day, the first and only time it had ever happened to me. When I got up and started walking, I almost passed out again. I had to sit down for a while. I attributed it to my anemia, because I haven't had high blood pressure in a long time, and I don't know what else would cause it. It was a weird feeling though...we were getting out of the car in the garage at my brothers house and we started walking and I felt woozy and told my mom and brother I feel like I'm going to pass out, and that was it. My brother caught me so I didn't hit my head on the cement. He said I was only out for about two seconds. When I woke up I was very disoriented.

Lisa might be right, it could be anxiety. It's best to get it checked out so you know for sure. Take care:)

I fainted a couple of years back and when I came around it felt like I was waking up from a long long sleep, heh.
Hope everything's fine!

Hi all.

I'm sure everything will test out fine.

I've got my eeg scheduled for Wednesday, then will have to get in to my doctor to discuss the results. I'll post a followup when I know more.

Thanks for the thoughts. :)

Hope you're ok. I used to faint away quite often - I had rather low blood pressure - it was horrid at the time but I know what you mean about feeling quite good afterwards. Once I remember distinctly feeling like I didn't want to come back at all - but I'm glad I did of course!

Whoa Shawn. I hope your tests are normal. Maybe your blood pressure was too low or you over stimulated your vagal nerve.
I have never passed out but have come close.
That is really scary.
Let us know as soon as you do.
I will be praying for you.

Interestingly, I spoke to my dad last night and told him what happened, and he told me that when he was young (younger than I am now) he used to ahve a problem where every once in a while, he'd feel a "click" in his neck, and one side of his neck would feel hot... and if he didn't get on the ground and put his head between his legs, he'd pass out cold.

His folks took him to various doctors, and they never found anything out of the ordinary.

Eventually, it just stopped happening.

I didn't have the issue with my neck, but it's interesting that he had that problem when he was younger.

Yikes! Sounds like a scary experience.

The only time I passed out was on the bus to Roskilde. I was so exhausted and sleep-deprived that as soon as the person sitting next to me got up to go buy a drink from a gas station, I keeled over and totally zonked out. It was exactly as you said, very restful. At least my head hit a soft seat instead of the hard floor :(

Yeah, that would be a bonus (the soft seat).

My boss asked me today if they should be buying me a helmet... LOL .
