This afternoon took Lisa to her ultrasound (her second).

This time the little guy/gal baby didn't just look like a glob... s/he looks like a real live human bean!

It was pretty neat watching as the image panned around, seeing the baby moving it's arms, moving it's head, opening it's mouth.

Super cool.

I was getting a bit antsy as I waited to be retrieved and taken to the room, as it was taking a really long time... I started getting worried something was wrong. o_O

But all was, and is, well.

About half way through, and I'm getting more and more anxious to have this pregnancy faze over with, and have our little MothBaby here.

Is upcoming MothBaby a MothBoy?

We're thinking it might be.

Why?

Over the last month or so Lisa has gotten into watching NHL hockey games with me (at least the Vancouver Canucks games anyway).

Normally she can't stand it... other than the occasional playoff game.

And the kicker?

Last night while I was playing on my PS3 in the computer room... Lisa was out in the living room... by herself... watching a Canucks game.

We're into Week 7 of El Pregnancio.

----------
Lisa's doing fine, although morning sickness has caught up to her over the last few days. She doesn't have it bad... yet. :p

----------

We still haven't told very many people yet... just close friends and family, and Lisa has told her bosses and a couple co-workers.

Lisa's bosses have been a LITTLE bit difficult, since Lisa told them. It's a husband-wife partnership, and when Lisa told the woman, her response was "Congratulations! So... when are you going to be off work, and for how long?"

And ever since then, there seems to be a slight air of annoyance around her (the boss)... annoyance at having to deal with Lisas maternity/parental leave.

I can understand the difficulty... it's not easy around here to fill positions... and even more so I imagine, with the realization that after a year goes by, Lisa may come back and they'd have to then let that new person go, after training them up, etc.

So I can empathize with them... but still ... it'd be nice if they at least PRETENDED to just be 100% supportive.

----------

Anyway... it'll be fine. Lisa isn't even sure if she'll want to go back to them after her parental leave is used up. Of course, she has told them she does plan on coming back, maybe just part time if possible... but I wouldn't be surprised if she decides that she doesn't go back, once the time comes.

We'll likely have to get her back working SOMEWHERE eventually, just for financial stability... but she's not been as happy at her current work lately.

Which in itself is kinda funny... she has a cycle of getting new jobs, loving them for a couple months... then thinking it's ok for a few months, then by about month 6 I can start expecting her to be complaining about her work when we get home at the end of the day. lol

I can almost mark my calendar to it.

----------

Lisa bought me an 'expecting father' book to read... it's been a good book so far, I'm about 2/3 through it.

It goes through what to expect from the guys point of view... how to help with things, how to deal with things, how to prepare, etc.

I had my first moment of anxiety while reading it though. I got to the part talking about when labor starts, and deciding when to go to the hospital.

Don't go too early, because they'll just send you home.

Don't go too late, because you don't want to be playing Dr. Dad in the Walmart parking lot because you didn't make it.

Time the contractions.

Chart the contractions.

Be ready to go... but don't panic, you have time... probably.

It all sounds very complicated and confusing to me... and I can just see myself panicking and wanting to Go, Go, Go! at the first sign of false contractions.

And... for better or worse, Lisa tends to be very easy going and non-committal on a lot of decisions... I do too... but in this situation, SOMEONE will have to 'take charge' ... so I fear that it'll be left up to me to make the call as to when to ring the alarm bell and hit the road. Yikes!

----------

We found out a couple weekends ago that a couple that we are friends with are also expecting (their 2nd) and their due date is about a month before ours. So that's exciting, and Lisa is pleased that she'll have someone else to talk to about what's happening, as it's happening.

----------

Our kiddo MIGHT come around on my birthday...

The due date is Oct. 7th, and my birthday is Oct 10... so it's entirely possible. That'd be kinda cool. =)

----------

I found a chart at the iVillage website that is apparently an old Chinese chart found in some tomb... this chart is supposed to be about 700 years old, and based on the mothers age at time of conception, and the month of conception, predicts what sex the child will be.

Supposedly it's 90% accurate. /shrug

Anyhoo... the chart indicates that our kiddo will be a boy.

We'll see how it goes. :)

----------

We have been told to try to remain a bit on the non-excited side until we're farther along... to avoid extreme disappointment if things go wrong early.

However, I'm finding that as the days and early weeks go by, I'm getting more excited already.

----------

Well, that's the news on the Father-to-be front for now.

Hope everyone has a happy Valentines Day.... don't let the standard V-Day Bah Humbugness get the best of you.... yeah, it's an artificial "holiday", and yeah, it's commercial... but dang it, make the best of it!

Any day that gives people the opportunity, initiative, and drive to make someone else smile... hell... that's a good day in my book.

Make it happen!
